IOTA/EA Occultation Observations Workshop 2024 in Kobe

The IOTA/EA Occultation Observations Workshop was held at Kobe University on November 16-17, 2024.

Here (https://fumi-yoshida.wixsite.com/occultation-ws) is for the detailed page (in Japanese). This is the fourth workshop.

This time we will go out to observe stellar occultation by Phaethon between the 16th and 17th of the first and second days of the workshop, which is a hard schedule.

On the 16th, the participants shared the importance of observing occultation by Phaethon, the observation formation, the observation method, and the observation reporting method. Those who could not come to the venue participated in the workshop via Zoom.

Our plan was to observe the stellar occultation of Phaethon on the 17th, which would occur before dawn on the 17th, and all observers were to bring their observation data for analysis in the workshop on the second day, but unfortunately we had thick  cloud at all observation sites and we could obtain no data.

Therefore, during the workshop on the second day, we practiced the analysis using past observation data.
The total number of workshop participants was 38. Among them, nine were university students, eight were high school students, and 21 were amateur astronomers and researchers.

Thanks to the large number of Japanese high school students who participated in this year’s workshop, the atmosphere of the workshop was greatly rejuvenated.
