Asteroid (3200) Phaeton has been predicted to occult a 12.5 magnitude star on November 16, 2024 (see https://fumi-yoshida.wixsite.com/occultation-ws/phaethon2024obs for details), and IOTA/EA has organized a campaign to observe Phaeton’s stellar occultation.
We set up 18 observation sites in Japan and 4 in China. 63 people participated. The observation reports are available here.
Despite the wide coverage from Japan to China, we could not able to observe the event due to clouds. The sky was sometimes clear when we were setting up the telescope, but it was completely cloudy at the time of the event. Too bad.
We will try again next year as there will be a similar phenomenon in Hokkaido.
