Takaya OKAMOTO

Born in Osaka and raised in Hiroshima
I graduated from the Faculty of Science at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
I completed my master's and doctoral degrees at Kobe University.

During my undergraduate days, I was affiliated with a theoretical research laboratory, where I conducted orbital calculations of small bodies in the solar system.
Then, my interest shifted towards impact phenomena in the solar system, leading me to join an experimental laboratory during my graduate studies. In particular, I became fascinated crater formation by impact experiments where simulated materials of small bodies were collided at speeds of several kilometers per second.

Even after obtaining my Ph.D. degrees, I continued researching the process of impact phenomena in the solar system. From 2015 to 2018, I assisted in the operation of two-stage light gas gun at PERC, and subsequently, I was affiliated with JAXA as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) research fellow until 2021. From 2017, I was involved in the DESTINY⁺ project, where I also contributed to camera development. Since 2021, I have returned to PERC and have been immersed in the DESTINY⁺ project, primarily focusing on optical calibration of the DESTINY+ onboard cameras.
