Associate Staff Scientist

Daisuke NAKAYAMA
Born in Fukuoka and raised in Kitakyushu.
I received my B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Kyushu Institute of Technology.
As an undergraduate, I belonged to a laboratory studying spacecraft charging and discharging phenomena, where I worked on the research and development of electric propulsion systems. Later, I became interested in wireless communications for small satellites, and from my graduate studies onward, I became actively involved in CubeSat development projects, conducting research on communication systems, particularly antennas for CubeSats.
Since the size of an antenna is fundamentally determined by its wavelength, while CubeSats offer only limited volume and surface area, my research has focused on designing antennas that can be efficiently integrated within such constraints. After obtaining my doctoral degree, I continued to work on the development of new CubeSats and on measurement systems required for detailed antenna characterization, while also engaging in research on underwater wireless communication.
Since 2025, I have been with PERC, where I am responsible for the research and development of communication systems, with a particular focus on antenna technologies for extreme environments.
My hobby is amateur radio. I hold a First-Class Amateur Radio Operator license in Japan as well as an FCC Amateur Extra Class license in the United States.
